THE SHIP IN A BOTTLE
Q: Why isn't the price included in the web page
for items such as ship models?
A: Countless hours may go into the construction of
a model or rope work project. Since each order is custom
designed and very unique, quotes are used to assist in determining
specific customer needs and also to assist us in reaching a price
agreement.
Q: Are your models "museum quality"?
A: We believe so. The term "museum quality" is widely over-used
and has been the topic of many a discussion in professional circles.
Please don't be mislead by this often inaccurate branding. You
can be assured that our models exemplify the highest quality
available on the market today.
Q: How long does it take to build a ship
in a bottle?
A: Depending on the level of detail, these models
typically take several days to several months to build. For example,
a customer may wish to have a specific model constructed. It
may take weeks to obtain suitable plans, if available, for an
accurate reproduction.
Q: How are ships in bottles built?
A: They are actually constructed outside the
bottle. Typically, the masts are hinged at the bottom.
The model is inserted into the neck of the bottle and the model's
rigging unfolded and arranged. This assumes all goes well.
Q: When will THE Ship In a Bottle begin
offering seminars?
A: Our present plans are to offer two
seminars annually beginning in the spring of 2008. It is possible
that additional seminars will be offered depending on the demand.
Q: Is your shop open to the general
public?
A: No. We are a home operated business.
We may accept visitors but request that you please arrange an
appointment to ensure your visit is a success.
Q: Who actually builds the models and
completes the ornamental rope work you offer?
A: Jim does all the actual construction and detail work. His
wife Sherry assists in the planning and with the initial
construction for many of the projects.
